Default New user questions

I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find answers to a couple of questions about the program.

    a) Is there a manual available?

    b) What's the difference between CATEGORY, GENRE and SUBGENRE? I know the differences, of course, but in this program, these entries appear to be redundant.

    c)

There isn't a manual but there is this forum

Category matches the FreeDB category ie rock, classical and folk etc. There are only eight or nine possibilities for this. Genre expanded that with a subset of SubGenre but both entries coming off the same list (maintainable through preferences).

Preferences is also where you'll find the reference format - in the example you gave you have category + a number which increments on each addition but I have set it to take just the number in my database.

As far as UPC codes go, you can use a barcode reader or enter the numbers manually.

And yes, you should include all the numbers.

As far as I know all newer products follow the the EAN-13 format, which means that there should be 13 digits. But you'll probably also come across products which use the 12 digit UPC-A format.

See http://www.ean-int.org/productssolutions/barcodes/technical/bar_code_types.html for further information about barcode types.
