Hey All,

With Freedb going the way of the dinosaur, freedb2 seems like the next logical choice. The freedb2.org website states that it is known to work with OrangCD and says to chnage the HTTP in the preferences to the new site. Trying this didnt get me anywhere, however. Is it just a matter of plugging the number '2' into the URL? Is anyone else getting this to work? Thanks.

I was going to ask the same thing - can't access FreeDB or FreeDB2.

Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Thank you.

I just added a new CD to my collection, and had absolutely no problem accessing freeDB. Haven't tried freedDB2 yet.

To configure OrangeCD to use FreeDB2, insert this in "CD info download URL" box in Preferences/Internet:

http://freedb2.org/~cddb/cddb.cgi

To configure submit, click Advanced, check "Use SMTP protocol for CD info submit" option and enter the following info below it.

I never had any problem accessing Freedb. However today I tried to add new CDs and got an invalid argument every time. I tried to access Freedb2 but with no success. Please can you help?

Thanks for the info everybody. I didnt realize the errors were internal rather than from the website, still good to have a backup plan should the freedb feuding cause it to go down for good.

Andrei,

This is what I am getting in the Session Log:

Connecting to freedb.freedb.org:8880

When I had the problem with Freedb, I changed to Freedb2 and then changed back to Freedb as I could not connect with Freedb2.

Thanks

Joe

When I had the problem with Freedb, I changed to Freedb2 and then changed back to Freedb as I could not connect with Freedb2.
Click View - Preferences, Internet tab, Advanced button. Uncheck "Use CDDB protocol for CD info download" and press OK twice.

(I see that at this moment Freedb.org server is down, so it makes sense to switch to FreeDB2.org as I described in earlier post until things get into order.)

I unchecked the box. I will wait for a few hours maybe Freedb will be online and try again. If Freedb server remains down I will change to Freedb2.

Thanks for your help and assistance,

Joe

Andrei,

I don't know if the Freedb server is up but when I tried to get a new Cd info I got the following session log:

Andrei,

I don't know if the Freedb server is up but when I tried to get a new Cd info I got the following session log:

Connecting to freedb.freedb.org
>| GET /~cddb/submit.cgi?

You have wrong URL in "CD info download URL" box in Preferences. Your log indicates you query submit.cgi, but it is a URL for submission, not for data download. Correct URL is the first entry in the drop-down list, and it works right now.

Thanks,
Andrei

I see the site is up and down, maybe this will add to the knowledge base? I have never had the CDDB protocol box checked, and here is the session log as of 5:54 CST-

It is what I meant by "Add from FreeDB" feature being broken. I am working on the fix right now and ETA is within next 24 hours. You won't need to upgrade, the change will happen on server.
