To a few People who said OrangeCD was not good for large Databases.....well you were wrong.

Just wanted to Comment and let you know how some large Databases are doing and what their Size are.

Can you share your thoughts about database performance with these volumes of data? If there are specific features that you think are slow, I'd like to fix them.

My db is 3500 albums, full album art and AMG reviews, size is about 65 megs, no real complaints, sometimes going from band to band in grid view there is a delay, nothing major.

65 megs?I bet it is running a little slow.My stats are 6107 disks at 19.17 megabytes.

What you need to do is go to view , Preferences and then Imaging.Check the box that says "Store covers in external files if size exceeds".Make sure the other Box is unchecked. Now set it to 0.

Next thing go to Database and then compact. It will stor all your Art work in a seperate folder on your PC.It really helps Orange to run alot faster.

My collection consists of 900+ CDs (=15000+ tracks) and my database file size is 11 MB.
So FuNkY_CaPrIcOrN - how have you managed to squeeze 6000 CDs into 19MB?

    I have checked:
    - Store covers in external files if size exceeds 32KB
    - Store thumbnails in the database

I'm pretty sure that FC has

    - Store covers in external files if size exceeds 0KB
    - Store thumbnails in the database - NO ???

That will greatly reduce the DB size. He probably also has the store Thumbnails unchecked. This will result in the smallest DB size but will use an external directory to hold all of the artwork.

    Hi Bob

You're probably right. I did some testing myself, and found that fine tuning these two parameters does actually reduce the DB size drastically. Here are the results of my little test:

    My OCD collection stats
    Total playtime............: 34:06:57:40
    Total # of albums.......: 849
    Total # of disks..........: 911
    Total # of sets............: 50
    Total # of tracks.........: 15125

    Test results:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---(1)-------(2)-------(3)-------------(4)---------(5)---------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Yes 32KB....Yes.....11,12 MB.......148,2 MB....776
    Yes 32KB....No........5,12 MB.......148,2 MB....776
    Yes 16KB....No........3,29 MB.......150,2 MB....860
    Yes 8KB....No........2,74 MB.......150,6 MB....888
    Yes 0KB....No........2,59 MB.......150,7 MB....911
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    (1) = Store images in external file if size exceeds...
    (2) = Store thumbnails in database
    (3) = My OCD database file (.dab) size
    (4) = My covers folder size
    (5) = # of files in covers folder

So setting the cover size to 0 KB would reduce an OCD collection of 6000 disks to approx. 17MB.
